Middle School - a flying start

Students in The Springfield College’s Middle School are off to a flying start in learning to discern in which direction their talents lie.

Middle School is an important stage in your child’s overall growth and development. As students move through this unique time in their lives they will be challenged by a range of changes – physical, cognitive, social, emotional and moral development that is characteristic of adolescence.

Year 7 students start the year with their class teacher in a classroom-based Year Seven program. By semester two, the students begin to experience core subjects in a secondary school format in which emphasis is placed on organizational skills, study skills and time management. This gives them a good start in concentrating fully on the demands of secondary education in Year Eight.

In Years 8 and 9, students are exposed to a wide range of academic subjects, which assists them in making confident choices regarding their senior study pathway.

In addition to the four Key Learning Areas of English, Maths, Science and Social Sciences, students can choose from a broad range of subjects such as Art, Computer Studies, Graphics, Industrial Technology and Design, Mandarin Chinese, Music and Speech and Drama.
