Primary School - Prep to Year 3

Your child’s Prep Year at The Springfield College is a preparation for their future schooling in a happy, relaxed and caring environment. The program places an emphasis on educating the whole child and includes a wide range of activities which assist children to build on previous experiences in an individual, meaningful and developmentally sound manner.

Preparatory Class

The Preparatory year features an age-appropriate program combining class activities and creative play.

The program focuses on the acquisition of important preparatory skills such as pre-reading, pre-writing and fine motor skills. Music tuition, Mandarin Chinese, Physical Education, and Speech and Drama also commence in Prep classes, providing a very rich program which will ensure the children are well and truly ready to begin their formal schooling in Year One. All Prep classes have a full time teacher aide working alongside the Prep teacher.

Some families whose children attend Prep Class may be eligible for the Government's Childcare Cash Rebate.

 In the Prep Year children start with Mandarin and Music lessons, learnt more easily from a young age. A Canadian study recently found that young children who took music lessons showed more advanced brain development and better memory. Your child will enjoy painting and drawing, cooking activities, outdoor play, and special themed activity days as part of the wide curriculum. The physical and emotional needs of young children are recognized with a healthy mid-morning snack and a rest period immediately after lunch.

You will find that Prep Year at The Springfield College is excellent preparation for Year One.

Years 1 to 3

In Years one to three, students learn about the world through experience and investigation.  Learning is fostered through a caring, innovative and vibrant environment that encourages creative and critical thinking.  The educational programs have been designed with an emphasis on mastering skills that prepare students for their future years, which includes intellectual, physical, social and emotional development.  Emphasis is also given to the growth of personal values based on a Christian way of life. 

The junior primary classrooms are a place where learning is fun, exciting and where friendships can flourish under the supportive guidance of the teachers and support staff.  The Junior Primary Curriculum includes the Key Learning Areas of: English, Mathematics, Science, Studies of Society and Environment, The Arts (Music, Instrumental Music and Speech and Drama), Health and Physical Education (skill development and perceptual motor program), Languages Other Than English (Mandarin Chinese) and Christian Living.
